Timken Non-Contact Infrared Thermometers Extend Reach of Predictive Maintenance
New lightweight infrared thermometer allows measurement of inaccessible equipment

CANTON, Ohio – Sept. 15, 2008 – The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR) is introducing a new line of non-contact infrared thermometers that allow users to safely measure the temperature of equipment operating in hard-to-reach or dangerous areas.

These new hand-held, non-contact infrared thermometers are the latest in Timken’s line of industrial tools designed to help customers improve shop maintenance and increase uptime.

“Accurate temperature measurement is an essential part of keeping shop operations running smoothly, but safety should never be compromised,” said Scott Biltz, manager-global product portfolio.  “These new thermometers avoid contact with hot surfaces or moving parts for safer, faster and easier temperature measurement.”

Capable of reading temperatures ranging from 76 degrees below zero to 1,600 degrees Fahrenheit, the thermometers use infrared technology to determine an object’s surface temperature and provide a clear reading on the thermometer’s backlit LCD display.

“Timken offers a complete line of reliability products and services that are developed to enable customers to improve maintenance practices and avoid costly downtime,” Biltz said.  “The new infrared thermometer is a great first-step toward a more proactive approach to equipment maintenance or a nice complement to an existing predictive program.”

Although it is suitable for a variety of industrial environments, these non-contact infrared thermometers are recommended for applications that involve moving rollers, machinery and conveyor belts.

Timken offers three models, each with characteristics suited to different applications.  Timken service engineers are available to advise users on choosing the appropriate model for their application.  For more information on Timken’s non-contact infrared thermometers, please visitwww.timken.com/reliability.
